Presenter: Dr Nellie Deutsch
Course: MOODLE MOOC 8
Where: Online (WizIQ)

Description of the event
Reading on paper or digital screen webinar was presented by Dr Nellie Deutsch online on WizIQ on 30 May 2016.

Reading according to Dr Deutsch is anything based on text. We read a multiple screen or paper.

We were not born to read and our brains have developed due to reading and writing. We need to read in order to develop and share information. The more we read the more our brains develops.

There is no difference in our brains as we read from screen or paper and the pleasure of reading from paper or screen depends on individuals.

Dr Deutsch cited Goleman who said “We learn best with focused attention”.

The destruction that may challenge our reading can be either sensory or personal.

What I liked about the presenter is that the participants were engaged throughout the presentation

There presenter dealt with the following:

  • Who should assess
  • Types of assessments
  • Kinds of assessments
  • How technology affect learning
  • Four essentials of interactions that should be included in the rubric and concluded by providing different technology assessment tools
Participants were given the opportunity to participate in the Kahoot assessment tool.

Connection with the Presenter and/or Participants
Due to some technical problem I was not able to take part in Kahoot and from the chat board I could see that the participants enjoyed themselves. I also took part in the chat.

Questions During the Event
A number of assessment tools were presented and one of the questions that came into my mind was which one to learn about first?

How I Felt During the Presentation
Seeing how learners can be engaged in a meaningful way while learning made me feel good.

Thoughts that went through my mind
The thought that went through my mind was that I must not rush in trying to understand all the tools at once but take one at a time until i get the one that is relevant for our situation.

The Challenge in The Implementation

The biggest challenges in implementing what I learned is the internet and the availability of wifi. There is a need for teacher development for  everyone to be on board.

Steps to Resolve The Challenges
To resolve the challenges, I will introduce the tools to my colleagues after engaging them in one and challenge them to try the tools with their learners. The more we get involved as teachers the better.

What I would like to do in the future

In one of the previous reflections the presenter mentioned how kahoot and socrates can make the difference in my teaching. Maha confirmed that, and as a start I will learn and use one of them in my classroom encourage other teachers to use them.

Questions I would like to research
I would like to research about the effective use of assessment tools in the classroom.

Reflection on New Digital classroom with Non-Digital Teachers Webinar
Date: 16 May 2016
Presenter: Susan Brodar
Course: MOODLE MOOC 8
Where: Online (WizIQ)
Description of the event

After the presenter was introduced by the host Dr Nellie Deutsch, the presenter explained the difficulties she encountered as she encouraged teachers to use technology in various schools

According to Susan, most teachers especially the older ones are scared to use technology while learners use it freely. She encourage teachers to use students technical awareness and to undergo professional development workshops

Connection with the Presenter and/or Participants

I was very active on the chat board as this topic affect my school directly where on paper the learners are not allowed to come to school with cell phones although they do.

Questions During the Event

I had so many questions during the presentation and the major questions were how to convince my school to let learners use their phones and teachers to learn to use technology in class

How I Felt During the Presentation

I really felt bad as I compare my community with the rest of the world. I felt being left behind as we are still using the traditional methods of teaching and learning

Thoughts that went through my mind

I was thinking of the better way to steadily introduce my colleagues to use of technology in a way that they get excited and how to get the management of the school to unban the cell phones and make wi-fi available to all.

The Challenge in The Implementation

The biggest challenges in implementing what I learned is the internet and the availability of wifi. There is a need for teacher development for  everyone to be on board.

Steps to Resolve The Challenges

It take time for new ideas to be accepted by everybody. So I think to resolve the challenges I have to showcase what the learners do to all stakeholders

What I would like to do in the future

The presenter mentioned how kahoot and socrates can make the difference in my teaching and as a start I will learn and use one of them in my classroom encourage other teachers to use them.

Questions I would like to research

I am going to research about Free smartboard software and the use thereof as my school has a smartboard which is a white elephant due to having no software
